Job DescriptionThe Maine Association of Substance Abuse Programs seeks a Research Analyst for a full time two year grant funded position. Based in Augusta, ME, this position focuses on analyzing drug and alcohol consumption and consequence patterns and needs in order to inform prevention program planning. Work is performed independently and in collaboration with staff of the Office of Substance Abuse and other partners. Ability to use statistical software such as SAS, or SPSS, and Excel, Word, and Access. Knowledge of use of data processing in research, and statistical concepts/methods, ability to communicate effectively, manage multiple projects simultaneously, develop and deliver informational presentations at meetings and conferences. JOB DESCRIPTION This position focuses on analyzing drug and alcohol consumption and consequence patterns and needs in order to inform prevention program planning. Work is performed independently and in collaboration with staff of the Office of Substance Abuse and other partners. Representative Tasks: • Designs, implements and completes data analysis and research projects on substance abuse related issues to inform prevention planning. • Organizes and writes technical reports, plans and other documents in order to provide information. • Researches, compiles, and analyzes data concerning health programs and services in order to recommend improvements, alternatives, and modifications. • Coordinates data analysis and research initiatives for the Office of Substance Abuse Prevention Team and State Epidemiological Workgroup. • Provides information for public awareness materials and campaigns. • Communicates with and provides technical assistance to service providers, department personnel, state officials, and other stakeholders in substance abuse prevention work. • Develops and delivers informational presentations at meetings and conferences. • Presents and explains reports to various groups in order to increase understanding. • Participates in design of evaluation plans. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: • Knowledge of community health systems and facilities. • Knowledge of risk and protective factors affecting substance abuse patterns • Knowledge of assessment and monitoring methods and techniques • Knowledge of planning and research principles and methods. • Knowledge of the use of data processing in conducting research. • Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods, to include tests of significance. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. • Ability to prepare and complete reports. • Ability to develop and implement goals, objectives, and plans. • Ability to analyze policies and procedures, reach logical conclusions, and make sound recommendations • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously • Ability to work independently. • Ability to work effectively with service providers and department staff. • Ability to use statistical software such as SAS, SPSS. • Ability to use other software such as Excel, Word, and Access.
