Increasing Access, Advancing Recovery

MASAP, in partnership with the Office of Substance Abuse, was awarded three grants in 2006.

  • May 2006 - the State Association of Addiction Services (SAAS) funded MASAP, one of only three state associations in the nation, to demonstrate effective partnership outcomes through collaboration between MASAP, the Maine Office of Substance Abuse, and Brown University's  New England Addictions Technology Transfer Center.
  • October 2006 - MASAP began work on two grants through the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/Network for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment (NIATx)

Ultimately, these grants will increase access to and retention in outpatient substance abuse treatment through the implementation of rapid cycle change process improvement and adoption of evidence based clinical practices.

At the end of each year of project funding,  community based substance abuse treatment providers will:

  • reduce the wait time from first contact to first clinical appointment,
  • reduce the number of clients who don’t show up for treatment or drop out of treatment,
  • increase the use of outpatient services by  clients with especially difficult problems, who are now routinely screened out of treatment.

Maine is fortunate to be selected as a grantee state.  Nationally, SAAS awarded three grants, CSAT awarded nine grants and RWJF awarded only six grants
