Recovery Coach Program

We are pleased to announce that the Maine Alliance for Addiction Recovery (MAAR) is piloting the Maine Recovery Coach Program providing a peer support service network of coaches in Maine for people beginning recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.  Here are some frequently asked questions and answers.

What is a Recovery Coach?

A Recovery Coach is a peer who has direct experience with alcohol & /or drug addiction recovery, and who completes training to provide an array of support services.  The Recovery Coach helps open the door for people wanting to begin the recovery process by meeting with a person to help her/him find community based support and resources for a healthy recovery. The coach and recovering person work together to create a Recovery Wellness Plan.

Who is helped by a Recovery Coach?

Someone who is just starting out on their recovery journey or who might be in recovery and needs specific help to sustain their recovery efforts.

Who can become a Recovery Coach

You must meet the criteria set up by the Maine Alliance for Addiction Recovery as well as complete a training intensive.  For those who are in alcohol and drug addiction recovery, we require a minimum of 2 years continuous abstinence from alcohol and drugs.

Why might I want to become a Recovery Coach

Many recovering individuals tell us that it helps their own recovery to be of service to others who are struggling.   This new role of Recovery Coach offers the chance to help other peers who may be struggling to connect with others in recovery.  This training provides new skills and opportunities to assist others.

Will it cost me anything to meet with a Recovery Coach

Recovery Coach services are free of charge and offered as a peer recovery support service.
