MAINE ASSOCIATION of
SUBSTANCE ABUSE PROGRAMS

Prevention Convention

Th Fifth Annual Prevention Convention - Making Prevention Business As Usual - was held on Friday, November 4 2011 at Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell

The MAPSA Prevention Convention is Maine's primary conference on substance abuse prevention.  This year our theme - Making Prevention Business as Usual - was bringing into focus some of the emerging issues seen in Maine today such as marijuana and prescription and synthetic drug abuse, as well as information you can use in day-to-day prevention practice.  The nature of alcohol and drug use is rapidly changing in Maine and the better informed we all are about these issues the better able we will be to meet the challenges posed by these changes.

Participants heard information on a number of topics, including the Maine Medical Marijuana Program and current marijuana laws and the implications for prevention efforts, substance use and abuse and workplace law, the latest trends in impaired driving on Maine roads and what that means for our communities, and an update about the Fund for a Healthy Maine. Participants  and presenters shared ideas and successes and learned from each other.  By participating in conversations around underage drinking prevention, media literacy, strategies and sustainability, you lend your voice and your action to strengthen Maine's prevention community.
